十幾年前，中國最大的網際網絡公司還不是阿里巴巴或騰訊，而是遊戲開發商盛大互動娛樂有限公司。創辦人是一個名叫陳天橋，30歲已身家上億的年輕人。
在上一個10年大部分時間裡，陳天橋的知名度都比阿里巴巴的馬雲更高，然而那時他選擇了隱退。他離開中國，幾乎完全淡出了公眾視野，又於2012年把公司從納斯達克退市。

終於，陳天橋準備再次面向公眾開口。現年44歲、居於新加坡的他有了下一步行動計劃。在新加坡辦公室接受採訪時，他解釋了自己先前放棄畢生事業，向阿里巴巴和騰訊拱手讓出市場的原因。他在30多歲時恐慌症發作，隨市場競爭和政府監管環境帶來的壓力增加而出現惡化。最終他決定必須要挽回健康。

在一棟用作辦公的殖民地風格的兩層小樓裡，陳天橋與妻子坐在一幅舞者的油畫旁說道，每夜看著夕陽下沉，都曾以為自己再也無法在第二天醒來。

這番經歷最終引導他走上了一條嶄新的道路。與自身精神狀況的鬥爭及對佛教的信仰，促使他投身於人類腦科學研究事業。

為此，他從個人財富中撥出10億美元經費，其中包括他與妻子早先向加州理工學院捐贈的1.15億美元，成立陳天橋雒芊芊腦科學研究學院，其餘資金將用於直接資助青年科學家和在美國設立陳天橋大學(Chen University)。據彭博億萬富豪指數，他的財富至少為24億美元。撰文/Yoolim Lee
